You Against Me by Jenny Downham

Synopsis:

If someone hurts your sister and you're any kind of man, you seek revenge, right?

If your brother's accused of a terrible crime but says he didn't do it, you defend him, don't you?

When Mikey's sister claims a boy assaulted her, his world begins to fall apart.

When Ellie's brother is charged with the offence, her world begins to unravel.

When Mikey and Ellie meet, two worlds collide.

This is a brave and unflinching novel from the bestselling author of Before I Die. It's a book about loyalty and the choices that come with it. But above all it's a book about love.

My Rating
-4/5-

I really like this book. It was surprising super good. It really pulls you in right from the start. You have Mikey who believes his sister and Ellie who believes her brother. Even though Ellie and Mikey are on opposite sides and should hate each other they fall in love. Which is really cute.
Though this book is a lot of back and forth like Mikey uses Ellie, then Ellie uses him. Ellie gets Mikey in trouble then Mikey gets Ellie in trouble. Lol. Lots of back and forth which was cool.
I liked how you had to figure out if Mikey's sister or Ellie's brother is lying and who is to blame.
I liked the love story in this book it was very cute. I loved all the emotions in it. How it went between following Mikey and then Ellie.
Mikey has to do everything for his family for a while, take his little sister to school, work, take care of the family, try to get his mom to act like a mom. Yet he doesn't seemed stressed out.
Ellie her family only cares about his brother and what he is going through and they pay little attention to her and she is very stressed out.
Putting Mikey and Ellie together makes a roll coaster of emotions, which I just loved.
I really enjoyed the language of the book it made it interesting to read.
I also really loved the ending because while it is sort of happy it also leaves a lot open ended where you don't know what happened.
Just a really good book :)
