Panic by Lauren Oliver

Synopsis:

Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.

Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.

Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.

For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.

My Rating
-3/5-
Reading the synopsis of this book I thought it would be kind of like Nerve by Jeanne Ryan. While both have big challenges, Panic was different.
If someone plays Panic and win they get $50,000 to $67,000 so most people are in it for the money. The problem with Panic is people have died from it in the past. Also people have gotten seriously hurt, but yet the graduated class plays anyways. There is lots of cool challenges that happen even if they aren't that big or scary, some of them are pretty bad.
Also you have to be careful who your friends are you never know who is hiding secrets.
Dodge and Heather are both fighting to win the game for someone they love, and on top of that they fall in love with someone. Dodge and Heather are different though in the game for different reasons and are different people who handle things differently. The double point of view was cool and worked nicely for this book.
The thing I disliked about this book the most was it wasn't very exciting. It was a lot more boring then I expected it to be which was pretty sad. Also you could see most everything that was coming next so that made it a bit more boring too. I wish this book was more exciting I really do but other then that, it was a good book.
